Spotlight on... Finchittida Finch

Luna & Curious was the first ever bricks & mortar stockists of rising jewellery label Finchittida Finch.  Designed and made by identical twins Lisa & Tida, the label thoroughly encapsulates the L&C ethos… entirely made in Britain the intricate detailed Perspex are bold, fresh shapes but steeped in historical references to the twins Laos heritage.

Ahead of Finchittida Finch’s takeover of Luna & Curious’ annexe space, we speak to the Peckham based duo

L&C: You are half Lao and this is the principle influence on your jewellery.  Tell us a bit more about Laos…

Laos is a small country in South-East Asia, between Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. The landscape is beautiful, the people are so kind and the food is delicious! And then there’s the art - Lao art, textiles and architecture is so rich in colour, form and pattern. It is an endless source of inspiration for our designs and brand ethos, and it is our mission to protect it.

It is almost unknown that Laos is the most bombed country in history, as a result of the Vietnam War. People’s lives are still at risk everyday from the bombs that remain in the ground from the war 40 years ago. Every piece of Finchittida Finch jewellery bought helps to clear a bomb in Laos, and eventually all war-affected areas in the world. We’ve partnered with an incredible charity called MAG who specialise in clearing bombs and rehabilitating affected communities through education and developing work opportunities.

L&C: You make everything yourselves and consider the provenance of your materials, why is this so important to Finchittida Finch?

Finchittida Finch is part of the new generation of brands who realise that social and environmental responsibility is just as important as design. We have a section on our website called ‘Access All Areas’ where we show you how we make your jewels. All production processes should be accessible, allowing people to see whether a brand is being socially and environmentally responsible or not.

This year Fashion Revolution began; it is global movement asking brands and retailers to tell us how they make their clothes? This is the first time brands and retailers have been confronted in this way, for years they have been able to do the unthinkable because we never thought to question what occurred before the items arrived in the stores. You have the power to make a positive impact by asking these questions and choosing where you shop more carefully.

L&C: From 24th -31st May Finchittida Finch pop-up at Luna & Curious, what exciting plans do you have for this?

We can’t wait to get our paws on the L&C annexe! We’re so excited to announce that we will be launching our new jewellery line here - the Empress Collection. We are introducing some new colours to our range - a beautiful dusky pink and turquoise, just in time for summer.

Sunday 25th May: FREE nail art with every purchase of Finchiittida Finch jewellery

Wednesday 28th May: Launch party for the new collection with a screening of a short behind the scenes film, showing the design processes of the new collection.

On the final weekend we will be holding a jewellery making workshop, giving you the chance to make your own Finchittida Finch jewels.

L&C: Current studio soundtrack?

We have Banks, Aioko, and Elli Ingram on repeat - 3 soul sisters with an RnB edge.

L&C: What’s on your moodboard now?

- Strong female figures like M.I.A and Cleopatra

- Quotes by inspirational people like Diana Vreeland

- Beautiful Lao architecture and vibrant Lao fruits

L&C: Best eats, drinks & dancing?

Our friend Carter has a tiny coffee shop in the corner of a bike shop in Soho (Kinoko Custom Cycles on 10 golden square). Carter’s the nicest guy, making the nicest coffee - so anytime you’re in Soho get you’re coffee fix from him!

But we’re Peckham girls at heart, so our local favs include an amazing authentic Indian restaurant called Ganapati - they make amazing home cooked food and it’s very hard to get a table. The falafel shop in Camberwell is the best place for super-fast-healthy food! And Peckham Pelican is a great place for a casual drink with friends anytime of day.
